The Northwestern High School Band, under the direction of Mark Yost and Ryan Tinker, recently earned the South Carolina Band Directors Association’s Outstanding Performance Award for the twenty-seventh consecutive year. The Outstanding Performance Award is the highest honor presented by SCBDA to school band programs and recognizes excellence in all aspects of music education including concert band, marching band, jazz band, as well as the region and all-state ensembles and the state solo and ensemble performance assessments.
The Northwestern High School Band Program is committed to fostering a life-long relationship with music through performance in band. Approximately 160 students study music performance through participation in one or more combinations of symphonic band, marching band, jazz band, chamber ensembles, percussion ensembles, and winter guard.
