We hope this message finds you well and safe! Below are a few announcements regarding the NHS Band.
Band Assignments in Canvas
Students, please remain diligent over these last few weeks of school to continue practicing regularly and keeping up with your assignments for music theory, practice logs, etc. in Canvas. We purposely tried to limit the number of assessments for band, as we know that your workload in other classes may have been significant during the distance learning period. Do you best to stay caught up and be sure to reach out to Mr. Yost, Mr. Walker, or me with any questions or concerns.
Seniors, please be extra diligent in ensuring all assignments are complete and submitted ASAP. Distance learning continues for all underclassmen, but there are no new assignments for seniors moving forward.
NHS Band Awards
The NHS Band Awards presentation will be held digitally at our initially scheduled time, May 14, at 7:00 PM. We will provide access instructions via Zoom closer to the date of the event. We look forward to honoring all band members to mark the close of our time together for this year.
NHS Band Executive Board Voting Period
As mentioned in a previous communication in early April, due to school closures – this year, the band boosters must approve next year’s executive board positions through an electronic ballot. A slate of officers was e-mailed to our membership in early April. All band parents/guardians should fill out the following ballot concerning the presented slate. This ballot will close on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at midnight.

Resignation of Colorguard Director, Britni Wilt
Last week, we accepted the resignation of Britni Wilt, Director of the NHS Colorguard and Winterguard programs at Northwestern High School. For the past several years, Ms. Wilt tirelessly dedicated herself to our program by serving on our guard staff in a variety of supportive and leadership roles. As an alumna of the Purple Regiment, she took a vested interest in the success of our program, and most importantly, the nurturing and educating of our students. In addition to her contributions at Northwestern, Britni served as an elementary school teacher at Finley Road Elementary School. Ms. Wilt is leaving Rock Hill this summer to pursue an administrative leadership position at a student academy in Georgia. We will deeply miss her and certainly wish her well as she moves on with this new adventure in life. A search for a new Colorguard director has begun. We will keep everyone updated with further information regarding this position.
Pick-up/Drop Off
Detailed information will be forthcoming from school administration concerning the drop-off of school-owned equipment and materials (band instruments, sheet music, method books, etc.). Likewise, there will be an opportunity for students to enter the facility and band area to pick-up items, awards, memory books, etc. as well. We will be in touch with you as soon as these details are finalized and announced by our school administration.
Student Leadership Applications
Students interested in pursuing a leadership position in the band next year will have the opportunity to do so via an electronic application and potential interviews with band staff. More information concerning this process will be shared with members this week. Stay tuned!
It is sad to think that this week would have marked the culminating performances of our concert and jazz bands. Your talent and the joy you share with others through music-making is second to none! We all can certainly understand the need to remain distant during this time; however, students – please know that you are loved and missed very much!
Stay safe!
