Announcements: Week of 3/31

Parents & Students,

I would like to thank those parents who volunteered to run for a position on the NHS Band Booster Executive Board.  The candidates are:

  •             Kimberly Shaw – President
  •             Stephanie Tinker & Ken Nodes – Vice President
  •             Mecca Harvey – Treasurer
  •             Swonda Dixon – Junior Treasurer
  •             Dara Ross – Secretary

On Monday, May 3rd, the elections will be as part of the monthly booster meeting on Zoom.  We can accept any other nominations that evening if anyone would still like to be considered for one of the positions.  Please contact Mr. Yost or Todd Tucker ([email protected]) if you have any questions or concerns.

Here are the announcements and reminders for the week:

  • For students interested in pursuing a LEADERSHIP POSITION in Marching Band next fall, I highly recommend that you attend this webinar on April 14 at 7:00 pm, hosted by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser!
  • We are finalizing the orders for the cookie dough sale at this time. Please be sure to contact Mr. Yost or Pam Bilton ([email protected]) if you still have not turned in your orders.  We want to get everything finalized and submitted no later than Friday, April 2nd.
  • We will record the large ensembles in class tomorrow for the SCBDA Concert Performance Assessments. We will then record the small ensembles and the solos for the state Solo & Ensemble assessments on April 14 & 15 after spring break.
  • We still need water for the color guard to use over the next six weeks as they continue through their season. The water fountains are turned off at the school, and the sinks in the restrooms aren’t suited to refill a water bottle. If every family could pick up a 12 pack of water the next time you are shopping and then have your child bring it to the band room, we will have more than enough for the rest of the season, and we can also ensure everyone stays healthy.
  • For those students missing assignments, please remember the deadline to submit missing assignments is Friday, April 16. As I mentioned above, the ensembles’ overall sound is quite strong, but as I look at the individual grades, I see several that aren’t high as they should be due to all the missing assignments. Students and parents can log in to Canvas to see grades and see if any assignments are missing. Likewise, if a student did poorly on an assignment and feels they can do better, please contact the teacher for the class, and we can reassign the work for you to do again.

As always, feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach us through email at the addresses listed below or call the band room and leave a message.  We will return your call as soon as possible. We hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe break next week and look forward to seeing everyone again on the 12th.
