Announcements: Week of 5/20/2021

While we have discussed COVID protocols in class, I wanted to take a moment here to explain to you that I am still encouraging students to wear masks while in the band. Since the playing of a wind instrument releases aerosols that researchers have found is capable of carrying the virus, I feel it is important to continue the protocols we have followed since August. This includes maintaining a six-foot distance while we rehearse, using bell covers on all instruments, and wearing masks whenever possible. This will help to limit the exposure for students who are not fully vaccinated, and for those who are vaccinated. Researchers have found that a very small percentage of fully vaccinated individuals are still capable of contracting the virus, which would require an isolation period in accordance with district policy. Again, these are my recommendations, and I am not requiring masks to be worn in the classroom. For our performance next Tuesday, students who wish to use a mask while playing will be allowed to do so.

Announcements & Reminders for this week include:

  • The NHS Spring Band Concert is still set for Tuesday, May 25th at 7:00 pm in the courtyard at NHS
  • Students should arrive at 6:30 for warmup and will need to wear a nice pair of pants and a dress shirt
  • Khaki pants and a polo shirt, or a skirt and blouse are both examples of appropriate attire.
  • Blue jeans, shorts, and t-shirts will not be permitted for the students. Please be sure to contact Mr. Yost if there is a question or concern.
  • We have received confirmation that the band will NOT perform at commencement on June 24th. Since this would have been the final exam, students will be given the option to play a performance-based exam OR they will be able to take a traditional written test that will include topics from the music theory lessons we have covered this semester, as well as appropriate musical terms
  • Please be sure to submit the marching band registration information as soon as possible. If your child is signed up for marching band in the fall, his information was part of the mailing you should have received last week. You can enter your information online by clicking HERE, or scan the QR code found on the yellow page in the mailing. Please be sure to contact Mr. Yost as soon as possible if you did not receive the mailing and we will get one to you as soon as possible
  • Marching Band fees from this past fall should be paid as soon as possible. If you have questions, please contact the band office.
  • Band awards night is Thursday, June 3rd, at Ebenezer Park. We will start at 6 pm and hope to be finished no later than 9 pm.
