Announcements: Week of 8/18

Good morning everyone!

Hopefully, everyone has had a successful and uneventful start to your school year so far! I am sure there are still a few things that need to be worked out before everyone settles into their new routine, which is certainly the case here in the band room as well. Please remember that these weekly updates are also posted to the band website for your convenience, but your best source for information is still the monthly booster meetings. Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 7, at 7:00 pm in the band room. Booster meetings are almost always less than an hour and are open to all wind, percussion, and colorguard parents.

Updates for this week:

  • Students MUST bring their own water bottle to all rehearsals because water fountains are still shut down at school.
    • We will have water available at the field to refill water bottles
  • Our first game and performance will be at District 3 Stadium this coming Saturday, August 21
    • Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm
      • Students should be dropped off and picked up near the gate at the corner of Chester and Stadium Streets
      • Call time for students is 6:00 pm
      • Wear Summer Uniforms, which includes your 2021 show shirt, khaki shorts, and athletic shoes
      • We will perform both pregame and halftime
      • The game should be over between 9:00 and 9:30. Please be sure to make arrangements to pick your child up as soon as possible after the end of the game.
  • Don’t forget to reach out to family and friends about the mattress sale on Saturday, August 28th from 10:00 to 5:00 in the band room. We hope each family will find someone who is thinking about purchasing a mattress to stop by and see what we have to offer. This is a great opportunity to raise money for the students and the booster club while providing a quality product, at an affordable price, for your family and friends!
  • Shoe and Glove orders are due by Friday, August 20th. Please be sure to get these submitted if you have not yet done so!
  • Please remember to sign the Handbook & Grading Procedure forms by the end of the day on Friday, August 20. You can access those forms from the home page of your band course in Canvas.
  • There will be another Volunteer Training session on Tuesday, August 24, at 6:30 in the band room. Please remember this training is required for all volunteers!
  • Parents, if you would like to order a 2021 Show Shirt, please click here to submit your order.
  • Please remember to sign up for a time slot to volunteer at the Olde English Tournament of Bands on Saturday, September 25. This is an event we have co-hosted with the RHHS Band of Distinction for the past 37 years, and we need everyone’s help to make it successful. If everyone does their part no one will have to work multiple shifts. Volunteer sign-ups are available in Charms by clicking here and entering the school code “northwesternhsband”

As always, please feel free to reach out to me if there are any questions or concerns. I hope to see all of you at the football game on Saturday!
