Happy September 1st! It is hard to believe that we will go from the heat of the last few weeks to some cool and comfortable evenings by the time we get to the end of the month. As I shared with the students yesterday, I am very pleased with the performance they gave at the football game last Friday, and they should be proud of the work they have done to this point. We still have a great deal of work to do over the next couple of months, but if they continue as they have I think we will have a wonderful experience as we continue on our journey.
Updates and announcements for this week:
- Our next booster meeting is Tuesday, September 7, at 7:00 pm. You are welcome to join us in the band room for the meeting, but we will have it available on Zoom. Booster meetings are almost always less than an hour and are open to all band and colorguard parents. I can’t stress how important these meetings are for all parents as we start to move into our competitive season.
- Please be sure your child has a water bottle of some kind to bring to school for band practice each day. Water fountains are disabled at school, but we have water available at the field to refill water bottles
- The pep band trip to the Clover game this Friday has been canceled. Our next performance is on Friday, September 10, which is also middle school band night.
- Please remember to sign up for a time slot to volunteer at the Olde English Tournament of Bands on Saturday, September 25. This is an event we co-host with the RHHS Band of Distinction, and we need everyone’s help to make it successful.
- Purchase a personal ad in the Olde English Tournament of Bands program to show your love and support for your child. Click here to see ads that have been printed in the past and click here for information on purchasing and creating an ad for the program!
- If your employer might be interested in supporting the event, click here for details about business ads.
- Please be sure your child is keeping up with their work in all their classes. I frequently see students achieving to a high level in class, but that achievement isn’t reflected in their grades because they aren’t turning in their assignments. In addition, if a student has to leave rehearsal to attend tutoring, or to serve detention, they will fall behind in band.
Please reach out to the band staff if you have any questions or concerns. We hope all of you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, and we look forward to seeing you at the booster meeting Tuesday evening!
