It is with the greatest regret to inform our membership that the Northwestern High School Winterguard Season has ended. Our winter guard units were scheduled to perform two additional times at CWEA Catawba Ridge & CWEA Championships.
The CWEA Board of Directors met Wednesday evening in a closed-door session to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 situation on our upcoming events. After much consideration, and in consultation with local health authorities, the Board of Directors voted to cancel Color Guard Championships and Percussion & Winds Championships for the 2020 season. With regards to Catawba Ridge, the Board decided last night that additional time was needed before a final decision was made. Based on information from local health agencies received earlier this afternoon, the decision was made to cancel all remaining events.
We are incredibly proud of the efforts our students in both the Varsity and JV guards put forth this season. At Northwestern’s premiere event, our Varsity team placed 1st in Scholastic A. At Mooresville, our Varsity placed 1st in Scholastic and our JV placed third in Class 3A. Our Varsity placed 3rd last weekend at Byrnes.
While we are hopeful that there may be another opportunity for our students to perform their program again before the end of the school year, future potential protective restrictions may prevent us from doing so this school year. To our winter guard staff and members, thank you for your dedication to your craft and for working hard this season to bring your program to life! We need more people like you in our world and are blessed that you all are part of the Northwestern High School Band Program.
